Lap dog?

Every night, Gaia crawls up and goes to sleep on us. Usually she spreads across us both but tonight Mark was the lucky one!  She's only 65 pounds!😃

Spa Day!

Hawk is looking out the window wishing he could be out there rather than in here!  Somehow having a warm bath and getting your nails done and your hair done doesn't fall into the same category for canines as it does for us!

He's not quite done yet but he's been blown dry and mostly brushed out and he was telling me he had had enough. How did he tell me?  He was more fidgety, ducked his head low, pulled his foot back. I only have 10 more minutes and he'd be done. But I'm stopping. He asked me to stop and I did. I'll finish up later tonight or tomorrow. No big deal. I don't have to WIN!  We have a partnership and he's allowed to say no. Some people feel the need to WIN every time!  Stop being so stupid. When it's something important, I'll win then. But things like being groomed is something I can allow him his input. If you stop winning every time, you will earn the respect of your dog. He won't listen to you because he's afraid of you, he'll listen to you because he respects you!  That's the only kind of relationship I want with my dog.

Thinking of You

So nice to get multiple cards of condolences after the passing of Cruz. Thank you everyone.

Still the tears run down my cheeks and still the pack feels the disruption. Those who insist that dogs have no Alpha leader need just spend a few weeks with my pack. Cruz was the absolute matriarch and they are temporarily lost without her.

This card is from Debra who has been so wonderful at sending homemade cards for going on decades now!  She is on her second Guardian Angel, Lexi.  Thank you Debra for all your beautiful homemade cards!

A New Venture Inspired by Cruz

I miss my Cruz every single day.  She was always by my side, no matter what I was doing.  Her only exception was she gave me privacy while in the bathroom.  But she was always laying against the bathroom door when I opened it.  Each morning I would step over her and pet her.  I'd say "Good morning Cruz.  How's my beautiful girl today?"  For the past few years I knew each day was precious and she needed to know she was special.

What I did was make a t-shirt with her beautiful face on it.  Actually, I ended up making two.  A regular photo with the words "Old Dog, New Tricks".  And a stylized photo of her with "Older but Wiser" on it.  It got me thinking about me needing more German Shepherd clothing as mine are getting old and tired.  The ones I find are not up to my standards as far as the German Shepherd goes.  So I've decided to make some clothing and accessories using photos of some of my other dogs.  I just have 5 designs at the moment but I plan of making more.  They can all be purchased in Canadian dollars at http://tee.pub/lic/PrintMagicStudios.     My "shop" is called Print Magic Studios - Dog-inspired Digital art.  You can buy anything from T-shirts and Hoodies to Mugs and Phone Cases.  Anyone is welcome to purchase if you see something you like.  Come back soon to see more creations!

Sisterly Love!

I'm hoping I've fixed the photos being shown as negatives. This is a test. 🤞🏼

Best of Friends

This is Gaia (black) and Gypsy. They have been very different since Grandma Cruz passed. Gaia is a Cruz daughter. She, in particular, has become more assertive with most of the other dogs and more cuddly with the two-legged family.  But Gypsy and Gaia are the best of friends.

In Memory of Cruz

A special friend gave me this Eternity Crystal to remember Cruz by. It's beautiful. Just like she was.

Found this weird looking dog..

So we put her in the empty puppy kennel!

Neighbour needed someone to take care of a twin calf that wasn't eating so I volunteered!

Some Sad News

It is with the most incredible sadness that we had to help Cruz pass over the Rainbow Bridge last Friday.  Although she was not in pain, she had been losing muscle mass over the past year and it was just time.  It's so increibly hard to make such a decision.  If she had been in pain, it would have been easier.  For me.  But I'm glad that wasn't the way things went.  I'd much have it harder on me, than on her.  She was still happy but her body was giving out to the point I was afraid to leave her alone.  The last few weeks she had accidentally backed off the elevated bed (4 inches) and couldn't get herself unstuck.  She also got herself stuck backing out of "the Penthouse" which is a HUGE crate, also about 4 inches off the floor.  Both times I was right there to help her stand up.  If I hadn't been there, I'm not sure what might of happened.  To keep her safe when I went out of the house, I locked her in a crate and she didn't like that.  She was QUEEN of the dogs and felt that was below her standing! She was also incontinent and had been for quite some time.  Although I would continue cleaning up after her indefinitely with no hard feelings, I knew she was embarrassed.  Combining these things, I came to the decision she would be happier playing with her ancestors.  Before hand, we took her and Gypsy for a walk out West and she had a glorious time!  Even forging creeks and snow banks!  She was amazing.

She passed away peacefully in my arms with Mark petting her back.  The vet commented many times at what great shape she was. considering her age.   He said he'd never seen a dog of that age looking so good.  It made me feel good that at least she had a long, healthy life, right to the very end.  She has been my constant companion and everytime I turn around I wonder where she is.  So many tears have fallen already and there will be many more to come.

Never Completely Trust Wire Crates

This took a 18 month old boarder all of 5 minutes to do. He had used this crate throughout his whole life.  This is why they are not allowed on airplanes!

I asked, as always, if this dog had separation anxiety. They said no. What do you think?

The solid piece is the floor. The loose wire piece is the gate.
